 President's Greeting

Asokumar Buvanendran, MD

The needs of our society are now greater than ever before with the rapidly changing health care system in the country. All health care reform bills nationally and at the state level will be monitored very closely to determine how they affect ISA members. When the reforms are not in our interest, I can assure you that the ISA board will act decisively and promptly.

The ISA has initiated a pro-active legislative agenda. To achieve legislative success, we must be consistent with our message and remain unwavering in our determination. Our struggle to protect patient safety should commence at the grassroots level.

Legislators listen and respond to their constituents. Take a moment and contemplate how valuable it would be if ISA had a key contact for every legislator in Illinois. Implementing pro-active legislation is the easy part. The challenges we will encounter with the legislative process can only be met by the dedicated participation of all members. I therefore humbly ask each of you for your individual support to ensure the success of ISA’s mission and goals so that the Illinois public can get the medical care they deserve.

I can assure each and every ISA member, we need your support. Become involved and please communicate to me and how we can improve the mission of ISA- president@isahq.org

ASA Launches Lifeline Campaign Web Site -

ASA has launched a campaign to increase public awareness of the central role anesthesiologists play in modern medicine. Called the Lifeline Campain, it stresses that highly trained physician anesthesiologists provide a lifeline to modern medicine because they are involved at the most important points of a person's life: at childbirth, during surgery, in critcal care, chronic pain and palliative care. Anesthesiologists work throughout the hospital taking care of all kinds of patients. Without important developments in the safety of anesthesia care and in the techncal capabilities of anesthesiologists, many of the modern miracles of medicine would not be possilbe.
